Walking school bus to reduce congestion on the roadways and to inspire a healthier lifestyle.

Everyone is back from their holidays, and students are being transported to and from school often in the family car. No one wants to be in a school zone 15 minutes before or after school because of the congestion.

Green initiatives have sprouted to encourage parents to walk their students to school. Many students live close enough to walk to school but because of safety and time constraints students are being transported via motor vehicles. The walking school bus is a new alternative to get students to school safely and reduce the vehicle congestion in the community. As well, it is kind to the environment and kids are walking.

Walking school bus begins with all parents walking their students to school until they are able to trust each other. Once trust is established parents or volunteers take turns bringing several students to school.

Benefits of the walking school bus are the community gets to know each other and a healthy lifestyle is modeled. Try and become a part of a walking school bus. Even walking to school one morning a week or month makes a difference.
