What are your thoughts about the hot issue of implementing a teachers dress code? Should teachers adhere to a strict dress code policy like their students?

For years, there has been a big debate on the pros and cons of students adhering to a strict dress code. The topic of teachers dress code is now a hot issue. Fridays used to be the day for teachers to dress down but it seems some teachers are now taking liberties each day.

I am all for fashion freedom but are some teachers style of fashion, making policy makers question if there should be a dress code for teachers. The next time you walk into a high school or middle school, see if you can distinguish the teachers from the students in the hallways.

As a teacher I like the freedom to make my fashion choice each morning. As I dress, I remember I am a model for the students and there is great power in the way I dress. If I walk into the classroom with a mini skirt will I get the same respect if I wear a suit. Humans are visual creatures, and it is important I wear attire that is aligned with my professional goals.

Everybody has a view on teachers dress code, share yours in the discussion forum. My colleagues have very different ideas of what is expected from a teacher. One teacher thinks all teachers should wear black pants and a white blouse but to me that seems to stunt the individuality of the teachers.

Be sure to cast your vote on this week's poll; Teachers Dress Code.
