Million Minute Family Challenge is a grassroots effort that encourages family, friends, and neighbours to play board games together for a minimum of 20 minutes. This is the 7th annual challenge to log a minimum of a million minutes across the United States.
Playing board games is a wonderful opportunity to model fairness, sportsmanship, communication, and sharing. Board games are fun, inexpensive and is able to engage more than one or two players. Teachers should open the classroom for students to play a variety of board games during school hours for learning during their free time.
As well, students can create their own board games to learn a new concept. Create a spelling board game or a board game to learn all 50 states. No matter the material for the board game, it is fun and challenging for most.
To participate in the Million Minute Family Challenge with your class, simply visit their website and log the minutes played by you and your students. Create contests between students and their families and fellow classes or schools. The amount of participation is up to the individuals.
