Feng Shui in the Classroom

Power Position for Teachers

Proper placement of the teacher's desk will either strengthen or weaken the teacher's position in the classroom.

As a Substitute Teacher I see the teacher desk in a variety of locations. Sometimes they are neatly tucked behind filing cabinets, so know one will see or bother them. Other times they are at the side of the classroom but most often they are not in the power position in the classroom.

Teachers should take some advice from successful businessmen such as Donald Trump. He seems to always have a big desk that is supported by a wall and his back is never to the door. In his position he can see who is coming and going in the office. It is important as a teacher to be able to view all the students and the door from your desk, even if you are not using it often.

As well, the desk should represent what you expect from the students. A messy desk models that it is okay to have a disorganized desk in the classroom. Feng Shui is a great tool to bring into the classroom.
