Get Hooked Again: Simple Steps to Crochet More Cool Stuff by Kim Werker [Watson-Guptill Publications, 2007] is an introduction to crocheting for individuals with little or no experience. Kim Werker's book will have a beginner excited about starting a crochet project.

Kim Werker’s book identifies the use of all hooks, how to wind yarn, read yarn labels, tricks of the trade and much more. Werker has anticipated most of the questions for a beginner and has eloquently provided the answers in a simple format. The first half of her book is devoted to learning the basic crochet stitches and how to gather the materials for the different projects. The second half is an assortment of projects to engage all crochet enthusiasts.

This bookis suitable for teachers who teach arts and crafts to students in a crafts club or kids' program or anyone interested in learning how to crochet. All of Werker’s projects are easy to learn. She has included many scarves that are simple to create with one or two stitch styles.

Crochet Club

Create a crochet club and do not worry if you have limited crochet experience; with Kim Werker, you can easily manage. Get Hooked Again] is a great resource for a crochet club because the projects are easy to understand with excellent step-by-step instructions. Encourage students to peruse Werker’s book for a project, once they have mastered the basic stitches.

Crocheting is a great skill for children as it develops their fine motor skills and ability to follow instructions. As well, it boosts their self-esteem as they are able to create something from nothing that has a use such as a hat or scarf.
