Bulletin Boards that are geared to showcase your students academic and social abilities. Rotate your bulletin boards monthly with the aid of your students.

Engage your students with November theme ideas for your classroom bulletin boards. It is important to continually rotate the work on bulletin boards to keep them fresh and inviting. Designate one bulletin board for the students and the other for the teacher to begin new and interesting conversations in the classroom.

Student Bulletin Boards

November Happenings: Students write a brief newspaper article on a person or event that occurred in November from the beginning of time or give a specific time frame. Be sure to have a list of November happenings for the students to choose from if they are unable to find any events that occurred in November. Students will present the information or you can create a class newspaper with all the clippings for the students to read independently.

Turkey Readers: Cut out a large turkey and paste on a bulletin board. Pre cut feathers that students will place on the turkey. Students receive a feather once they have completed a book. Students write the book title on the feather and place it on the turkey. As a class estimate how many feathers the turkey will have by the end of November. As well, you may estimate each week and create a bar graph to display the amount of books read by the class.

Leaves of Kindness: As a class, it is important to teach respect and kindness. Draw a forest of trees or one big tree with no leaves and have it as the center of the bulletin board. Cut an assortment of fall colored leaves and tape them to the trees. The purpose of this bulletin board is for the all the leaves to fall to the ground by the end of November. Leaves fall from the ground when a nice deed is done in the classroom. A teacher or a student places the name of the student and their deed on the leave and tapes it to ground cover on the bulletin board. It is important to set up parameters of what is considered a good deed. As well, you can make the different leaves represent different acts of kindness. For example, the gold leaves are for an extraordinary act of kindness such as stopping a child from being bullied on the playground, while the orange leaves are for kindness such as lending a pencil or listening to the teacher all day.

Food Bank: Month of November is usually the start of bringing in donations for food banks. Encourage students to bring in food items for the less fortunate and use this information to teach students math skills. Students paste a picture of their donation on the bulletin board. Students will cut out the item from a supermarket flyer. Students will estimate the cost of the food and place their estimations on one side of the bulletin board. As a class, students will calculate the cost of their food bank donations. As well, students may estimate the total cost before any food is donated. Other options are to calculate the pounds of food donated, how many families are fed with the donations, create meals with the donations. This bulletin board will teach the students invaluable lessons.
